Sparkes wins snooker final

PAUL Sparkes won the second Fred Grimes Memorial Trophy final, at Ackroyd Street WMC, last Wednesday.

A total of 32 snooker players were invited to enter from Gildersome Cons, Morley WMC and Holbeck WMC and the host club.

In the final Sparkes met Robert Bullers, his team mate from Ackroyd Street.

A 3-0 winning margin doesn't reflect a close final in which both players potted well and played good safety shots and snookers.

Sparkes was pushed in every frame and had to work hard to earn the 150 prize and the Fred Grimes Trophy.

Bullers won 75 and the runner-up trophy.

Bob Akers of Gildersome won the highest break prize of 25 for an excellent 51 in the semi-final against Bullers.

The trophies were donated by Fred Grimes' wife Vivian and his sons Conrad and Paul.

They thanked everyone who entered and look forward to next year's competition.
